Following the growth of our Futures provision, an exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the Higher Education provision at the City of London School for Girls. The postholder will lead all elements of the schools very well-established and successful higher education programme, supporting our pupils through their applications to elite universities both at home and overseas. They will accordingly have considerable whole-school responsibility, running this significant department in the school. The role would suit someone looking to move into senior leadership in the near future.
The majority of CLSG students make applications to Oxford or Cambridge universities, many to medical schools and a significant number make dual track applications to US schools (we have a permanent dedicated and highly experienced US counsellor in the team). Currently all pupils make applications to Russell group universities and we enjoy an enviable first choice success rate.
The Director of Higher Education will contribute to all aspects of the work of the department but be responsible for the Higher Education programme, managing the process of applications to UK, US and international universities. The postholder therefore will have an excellent understanding of how to support highly able students through applications to elite institutions, including having experience and understanding of the collegiate system at Oxbridge and how best to advise and prepare students for tutorial/supervision based courses and admissions processes.
They will be an excellent teacher, (the D of HE will teach on a very reduced timetable) and will be comfortable working closely with Heads of departments across all disciplines to support and guide their university enrichment programme.
They will manage a team: including 4 Higher Education Co-ordinators, 1 US counsellor, and a Higher Education administrator. They will report to the Senior Deputy Head, with a dotted line report to the Head of Futures. They will also have regular meetings with the Head, the Deputy Head Academic and report as necessary to wider Senior team and governors.
